The RAPID (Rock And Paleomagnetism Instrument Development) consortium is a multi-campus virtual institute devoted to improving the speed and precision of paleomagnetic and rock magnetic measurements. Our current campuses are Caltech, MIT, Yale, Occidental College, UT-Austin, USGS-Menlo Park, Vanderbilt University, and the University of Johannesburg.

RAPID's flagship instrument is our automatic sample changer for a vertical-oriented superconducting rock magnetometer, such as that produced by 2G Enterprises. The sample changer is described in an article in G3, and specifications are available from this web site.
